From: Malcolm, Alan Sent: 19 October 2004 11:17 To: Laird, James (Watson Norie); Marshall, Lee (Watson Norrie) Cc: Simpson, Malcolm T Subject: KG TAR 2004 Jim / Lee I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Jack Carroll and the rest of your team here at Grangemouth for their excellent performance during the recent KG Turnaround. I believe we have built upon the relationships we formed last year at G4 and taken the lessons learned from G4 forward into this years TAR (The TAR has been classed as a "Superior" Turnaround) New project installations were of a very high standard, as were the temporary installations for lighting and small power. The revenue scope was also carried out in a timely and largely hassle free way (again lessons learned from last year - RAP). I think special mention should go to the nightshift cover team who from all reports seem to have performed particularly well as part of that team, especially as we had to endure some of the wettest weather for years during August. Your excellent safety performance also helped us to achieve over 400,000 man-hours without a recordable injury or any DAFWC's. (Your team participated in the TAR induction process / Toolbox talk program and performed their tasks safely whether within the village or on-site.) They were very much a part of the TAR Team. Once again I would like to thank all concerned for their efforts - well done. For Your Information - I have added a piece below from a recent article by Ralph Alexander the new Chief Executive of NEWCO. Regards Alan Malcolm

|
From: Raymond Radtke To: lmarshall@watsonnorie.co.uk Sent: Friday, September 24, 2004 8:24 AM Subject: PROJECT WORK Hi Lee, Just thought I would give you an update on the work that has been carried out on our site over the past 8 weeks. Initially we required youre services to install the new chiller equipment, but since then Watson Norie have completed numerous other projects, and assisted with various installations during our annual shutdown, and helped woth commissioning. During this time the attitude towards safety has been exemplary, and the workmanship excellent. As you know, Safety is of paramount importance, an as such, every day of the shutdown, the management team carried out safety audits on mostly 'Hot Work A' permits and Watson Norie were audited daily. All the jobs that were being carried out responsibly, and the safety manager in particular commented on the positive attitude all of your men displayed when questioned during the audit. Well Done When you take on an new contractor you are never sure how they will integrate with youre 'system', but in this instance we have come up trump's. It was particularly important to get the choice right first time, as we had an extremely heavy workload and a tight timescale to deliver the project on time, and we achieved it. A big thanks to all the Watson Norie and Taylor workforce. We at Rohm and Hass look forward to the continued relationship Regards Raymond Radtke Instrument/Electrical Project Eng. North firm in alliance for Zeneca contract |
| Article from the Journal Newspaper (31st May 2000) Newcastle electrical and instrumentation company Watson Norie has won a multi-million contract at a major agrochemical complex being built in Scotland. It is one of the partners in a seven strong alliance of firms constructing a new fungicide plant for Zeneca at Grangemouth. The contract is one of the largest won by Watson Norie, which now has one of its healthiest ever order books and has more than 400 engineers and operatives working on projects around the country. Contracts director Bill Glasper said the combined value of the work in the pipeline is more than £18m and will keep the company busy for at least the next 18 months to two years. The Grangemouth project involves a huge investment for Zeneca and will confirm the group as one of the world leaders in agrochemical production. Watson Norie will control its part in the development from its head office in Walker, Newcastle. "Wherever possible staff and skilled labour from Tyneside will be employed on this prestigious project," said Mr Glasper. The other alliance companies involved are Dew Group (civil engineering), Peers Steelwork, UK Construction (mechanical), Cape Industries (services), Simon Carves (design) and Faithful & Gould (financial). "Watson Norie is now recognised within the industry as an alliance-orientated company, totally committed to the rationale and principles that bring companies together to pursue a common objective." Said Jack Clark, joint managing director for construction at the firm. This is the second major project it has been involved in at Grangemouth in the last couple of years. It previously won an £8m electrical and instrumentation contract as one of eight partner companies working on the construction of a £130m plant for BP. Among of Watson Norie's customers are Du Pont, for whom it has carried out a great deal of work at Wilton in Teesside, and Conoco at Immingham on Humberside. Others include ICI, Union Carbide, British Steel, British Sugar and Glaxo. Mr Glasper said that one of the strengths of the company has been its retention of a hard core of long-servicing skilled and experienced people in the field and at its offices in Newcastle, Grangemouth and Scunthorpe. "Reputation counts for a lot in our industry. We have blue-chip companies we work for who continuously come back to us because we do a good job for them," he said. Watson Norie is a family-owned firm which has been in business since 1920, and it currently has a turnover of around £24m a year. Contracts it carries out for customers such as Zeneca involve cabling up plants and the instrumentation that powers and controls production systems. It also installs all the lighting and other electrical equipment.
