Home Page

An aspect that we are extremely proud of is our excellent Safety Record.   We operate a very practical approach to safety, a no blame culture and near miss reporting.    Coupled together with other elements of safety practice, these have helped to produce very low Lost Time Incident figures and with our involvement on major contracts we have been rewarded with many safety commendations.  At Watson Norie we believe that communication between the individuals associated with our business is an important aspect of safety management and a Safety News Letter is issued on a regular basis.  The newsletter is below or you may prefer to download it into Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Word.

    Conoco ImminghamSmoke Free Law

Congratulations to the Conoco Project Immingham, completing 200,000 man hours without a recordable injury.

This was rewarded by giving each employee a Fleece Jacket as thanks for their individual effort in achieving this milestone. A Conoco spokesman said Watson Norie have always placed safety as one of their highest priorities, which is reflected in their past performances.

As from 6am on 1st July 2007 virtually all public and work places in England will be subject to Smoke Free Legislation. This means that in addition to Licensed Premises such as Bars and Restaurants almost all work places will be affected.

From this date all premises and vehicles will need to display NO SMOKING SIGNS. So even if we are already smoke free, there are still some actions that we need to undertake in order to fully comply with the regulations.

Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007Accidents/Incidents

CONSTRUCTION DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS 2007.

The Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM 2007) came into force on the 6th April 2007. Replacing the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM 94), and the Construction Health Safety and Welfare Regulation 1996.

There have been some major changes in the new regulations with more emphasis on ownership, identification of responsible parties, and the new role of the CDM Co-ordinator.

The client agent and the planning supervisor roles have been removed from the regulations as responsible parties. The Construction Health Safety and Welfare Regulations have been repealed and incorporated into the new regs.

The new approved code of practice has been produced which is recommended to all for guidance.

A recent Safety Alert from a construction site, has highlighted the need for good driving on site.

The Safety Alert goes on to describe the incident.

A serious incident occurred when a Telehandler collided with the rear of a site Landrover. The Telehandler was following the Landrover on site when both vehicles began to take a right hand turn. As they turned the driver of the Landrover pulled in to answer a call on a Mobile Phone resulting in a collision. As the forks of the Telehandler were in a semi-raised position, they penetrated the rear window of the Landrover. Personnel were in the rear of the vehicle and one person suffered minor bruising and grazes. This was a high potential incident which could have resulted in far greater consequences even a fatality.
